Senior Partner – Ms. Wakiaga Norah Jael Kijala

Ms. Kijala is the senior partner at KM Advocates and is a seasoned Advocate with experience in private legal practice having handled a broad range of transactions. Ms. Kijala holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Kenyatta University, Kenya, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Master of Laws degree from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. As a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholar, Ms. Kijala has undergone training on regional integration law including East African Community Law and European Union law at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and University of Bayreuth in the Federal Republic of Germany.

In her practice she has acted for a cross-section of clients ranging from private clients, public entities and corporate clients. She has gained vast exposure and experience in litigation, commercial and corporate law, conveyance including real estate, transfer of land, banking and perfection of securities, probate and administration and various insurance claims. Ms. Kijala has handled diverse complex transactions involving the above areas of practice which has put her on edge with the ability to handle and advice high end clients at a relatively early stage in her legal profession.

In her previous engagement  in a Law Firm in Kisumu, Ms. Kijala successfully represented a private client in a petition filed against the Kenya Revenue Authority for a debt recovery of over 67,000,000.00 in tax arrears, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission at the High Court in Busia in a Constitutional Petition concerning party lists, assisted in representing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission against Judicial Review Applications and election petitions filed against it at the High Courts in Homabay and Siaya, handled perfection of banking  securities for various Banks including Equity Bank (K) Limited, the Co-operative Bank of Kenya Limited, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda (K) Limited, Sidian Bank Limited and I&M Bank Limited amounting to over 50,000,000.00, handled numerous conveyance transactions for private clients amounting to over 20,000,000.00 for properties located in and outside Kisumu County and liaised with the Companies registry in Nairobi in the registration of various commercial transactions including charges and debentures amounting to over 50,000,000.00.

She is a Member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), East Africa Law Society (EALS) and the Federation of Women Lawyers, Kenya (FIDA).
